Rachel smiled as she sang along to a song that was currently playing on the radio in Finn's car. She was so excited. New Directions was meeting at the lake to have a 4th of July party. There would be singing, dancing, swimming, eating and watching the fireworks after the sun went down. It was a great way to all be together to celebrate and have fun.
Finn had picked Rachel up and helped her load up his truck with the various bags and the three folding chairs Rachel had packed for the party. She had made various snacks and had packed towels, blankets, sunscreen, bug spray and other things that they might need. You could never be too prepared after all. "So, are you excited for the party? I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I hoped I packed enough stuff. I can't help thinking I forgot something. The others are going to remember to bring their contributions as well right? I mean, I made extra, but I don't want me to be the only person that remembered to pack anything and then the food be gone in the first five minutes or all of the towels be wet even before anyone's gotten in the water..." she trailed off, fidgeting a little nervously in the passenger seat. Ever since the fiasco with her and Finn's kiss onstage at Nationals, she had felt like she had to make it up to the club. She hoped that her contribution to the party and her finding out about the Summer Spectacular competition in California would be enough for them to forgive her. Not everyone was mad at her and Finn of course, but a few might be...

Finn slightly chuckled at Rachel's long list of worries, it was kinda cute how much Rachel cared about this party going so well. She clearly had everything in order, like she always does, he was just a little worried that the party wouldn't meet the ideals that she had preset in her head. "I'm sure everything will be fine! I know Puck wants to grill so he is bring some hot dogs and thing for the the grill. I have enough ground beef to make burgers for everyone. And I'm sure everyone is bringing their own towel. Kurt is also as planning just as much as you are, I hope Blaine doesn't car about a crammed car." He couldn't understand a lot of things but he could tell when Rachel was nervous or down. He took hold of Rachel's hand with his right hand. "Its gonna be fine and we are gonna have a lot of fun." Something about the whole big strong boyfriend thing with Rachel made him feel better about himself, something that he didn't think happened with Quinn.

Rachel smiled at him and blushed a little as he took her hand. They had held hands before of course, but she had to keep reminding herself that they were actually back together again. She had been trying to get back together again for so long after they had broken up that sometimes she couldn't believe that their romantic date in New York and that kiss on stage actually happened. "You're right. I guess I am freaking out a little. I just want everything to go well," she said as she squeezed his hand and rested her head on his arm.
"I've never been to a party like this before. I mean, I've gone to see fireworks and had picnics with my dads before, but I've never done that with friends or a boyfriend," she said, smiling up at him. As they entered the park and drew closer to the picnic area, she was growing more and more confident that this party was going to be great.

Brittany got out of the car and waved to her mom and sister. She would get a ride back from Santana. She looked around and wondered vaguely if this was where she was supposed to be. This was a lake. So, that was right. Or...was she supposed to meet the others at a pond? She didn't know. When she heard about it, her mind was on the clouds. She had been wondering if they really were as soft as they appeared. She once told Santana that she wanted to live on this "cloud 9" that people often talked about. It sounded like a wonderful place to her. But Santana told her that it was just an expression and that you couldn't really live on a cloud, that you'd fall right through. But maybe you could still touch them.
She looked up into the sky and spotted a cloud that looked like a bunny. Oh, yes she liked that cloud. She wanted to hug it. Of course she knew that it was too far away at the moment. But if she could just get on a plane and fly up there... Brittany started walking without really knowing where she was going. She looked around for the other members of New Directions. If she could just find them, then she would be alright. Better yet, if she could find Santana. She felt something in her hands and looked down. She saw that she held a towel. Oh, that's right. She had on her swimsuit under her clothes. And she looked hot in her bikini, if she said so herself. Also in her hands were chips. So, she would be eating as well. Good. She was hungry. But not too hungry, of course.
Soon, she spotted a car and started walking towards it. Maybe whoever it belonged to would have some answers for her. As she got to the car she spotted Finn and Rachel and waved. When she reached them she asked, "Is this where we are meeting for the New Directions party?" She looked around. "I'm not really sure where we are, but this looks right, don't you think?"

Finn just smiled at Rachel. "Your adorable you know that?" He gently squeezed her hand. "Your gonna have a great time, all our friends will be there, tons of food, swimming and alotta music. And at the end of the night we can cuddle up for the fire works." He knew it was going to be a great time, and by this time everyone should have forgiven him about the whole kiss thing.
Finn spotted Brittney coming up, it was nice to see someone was already here. "Hey Brittney, glad to see your here." He said hopefully acknowledging to Brittney that this was the right place. "Anyone else here?"

"Hey Brittney, glad to see your here. Anyone else here?"
Brittany looked around at Finn's words. In fact, she turned around in a small circle. It was the only way to ensure that she didn't miss anyone if they were standing behind her."No. It doesn't look like it." At that precise moment, she noticed Rachel sitting beside Finn in his car and pointed. "Oh! Rachel Berry's here." She then lowered her voice and spoke only to Finn. "Really, she's sitting right next to you. How did you not notice her?"
It seemed odd that Finn didn't realize his girlfriend was sitting right next to him. He was even holding her hand. Also Rachel had never stopped talking. Brittany thought that was so that no one did forget about her existance. She was so short that it could happen. So, she compensated for it by never being quiet. Although, she supposed, it was hard to notice anyone when she was around. So, she didn't hold it against him. Besides, Finn had a bad memory anyway. So, it was understandable... for him anyway.

Santana pulled up to the lake. Why she had even decided to attend the fourth of July bash set up by one Rachel Berry she wasn't sure. In the end it was probably a reason to show the girl (who reminded her of a pedophile's fondest fantasy) how a woman is supposed to look. Getting out of the car she saw Brittany a short distance away talking to someone in a car that looked like Finn's. She grabbed her bag, beach chair, the cake and soda she had brought and walked over toward the others.
Hello Brittany! How are you? Oh! I see you have found Pillsbury dough jock and Jail bait. So are we the first ones here?

"Hello Brittany! How are you? Oh! I see you have found Pillsbury dough jock and Jail bait. So are we the first ones here?"
Brittany smiled and turned when she heard Santana's voice. She laughed at the joke. Santana told the best jokes, even if they did insult people. Her insults were based on truth anyway. This party wasn't going to be lame after all. She waved her fingers as Santana came towards her. "Yeah. We're the only ones so far." Brittany's bangs got in her eyes a little and she swiftly moved them away with a small flick of her fingers.
"I tried to bring Lord Tubbington, but Mom seemed to think that wasn't a good idea." She gave a small shrug like it didn't matter. But she did miss her cat. She decided she would do another "Fondue for 2" later and let him be a part of it.

"Your adorable you know that? Your gonna have a great time, all our friends will be there, tons of food, swimming and alotta music. And at the end of the night we can cuddle up for the fire works."
Rachel grinned up at Finn, snuggling closer to him. "I like that idea. It sounds almost too good to be true," she said with a little giggle as he parked. She unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. She saw Brittany was there already. Rachel waved to the blonde girl and went to the back of Finn's pickup truck to begin unloading all of the various items she had packed. She took out a bag that contained various food in tupperware containers when she heard her name.
"Oh! Rachel Berry's here. Really, she's sitting right next to you. How did you not notice her?"
Rachel laughed a little at that as she made her way over. "I should hope he noticed me. We were in the car together the whole time after all," she said jokingly. "Hey Brittany. Were you waiting long? Hopefully more people will start showing up soon."
"Hello Brittany! How are you? Oh! I see you have found Pillsbury dough jock and Jail bait. So are we the first ones here?"
Speak of the devil. Rachel rolled her eyes at Santana's comment. Did she really have to put people down all the time? "That's what it looks like. Is it too early to star calling people?" she asked as she went back to the bed of the truck to get more bags.

Mercedes arrived in her car and parked. She belted out the last note of Whitney Houston's latest single. She then shut her car off and hopped out. She was excited about summer and the 4th of July party one of her best friends planned, Rachel Berry. She also hoped her other best friend, Kurt Hummel, would be showing up. When the three divas got together, anything could happen, including impromptu diva offs. Sometimes she thought it was strange that the three of them got along so easily. But then, it hadn't always been easy. For Mercedes and Kurt it was easy, aside from the fact that she had a crush on him before she knew he was gay. But with Rachel, well, she supposed both of them could be self-centered sometimes, and that didn't work too well in a group setting. But the two girls were close friends now, and she didn't think that would be changing anytime soon.
As she walked over to the meeting place she carried the food she promised. Her mom's homemade chocolate cake. It was delicious and she had been promising Rachel to bring her some someday. Now seemed like a good time.
"Is it too early to start calling people?"
Mercedes grinned when she reached Rachel. "Who do you have to call when the party's already here?" she asked.

Finns smiled happy to see that a few people have already shown up. Brittney was being her usual self and was Santana. He saw Mercedes walk up to to the group hold what appeared to be a cake. Finn did love baked goods. Even more so after he discovered that Kurt was a stress baker. If Mercedes cake was half as good as Kurt's 'Gap Disaster Cobbler' then everyone was really in for a treat.
"Who do you have to call when the party's already here?"
"Hey Mercedes! Glad your hear. Have you heard from any of the others?"

Rachel smiled at Mercedes, relieved to see that she remembered to bring her contribution to the party. It was hard having to be the party planner all the time and preparing food for all of New Directions wasn't the easiest thing to do either. "Hey Mercedes! Good to see you!" she said as she walked towards the group again carrying a folding lawn chair.
"Okay, so we're still missing Artie, Tina, Mike, Quinn...and there's Puck and Lauren. Finn, was Kurt getting ready to leave when you picked me up? And do you know if he's bringing Blaine or not?" she asked looking at her boyfriend. She wasn't sure if the Warbler was coming with Kurt or if he was driving there himself. Rachel then looked at Mercedes "Have you heard from Sam at all?" she asked innocently. She knew that they had gotten closer as friends since Prom and thought that she might have heard something about the boy.

"Have you heard from Sam at all?"
Mercedes listened as Rachel talked. She named off every single person that was missing from this awesome little party. Of course people were going to be late for this thing. Rachel planned it. She was surprised Santana and Brittany showed up at all.
Wait-- Did Rachel just ask her about Sam? Oh god...did she know? Did they all know? Did they know that Sam was her secret boyfriend? That was not good. That was not good at all. She couldn't let people find out about her and Sam. Well, she knew what to do in this situation. Deny. Deny. Deny. "What? Sam? No. I don't know anything about where Sam is. What would make you think I know anything about where Sam is? I don't know anything about him." There. That should do it. She said this all very quickly.
There was no way anyone would suspect anything now. Right? She looked around at everyone that was there. She hoped no one would suspect anything. At least she knew that some members of the glee club were too dense to suspect anything.

"What? Sam? No. I don't know anything about where Sam is. What would make you think I know anything about where Sam is? I don't know anything about him."
Well what was quite a way of saying she didn't know what was up with Sam. I almost reminded him of Rachel trying to explain something. Or Kurt when he is baking and going on and on about the Gap. Oh well looks like no one knew what was up with Sam. Kinda sucked, he hadn't really seen any of the New Direction guys besides Kurt since summer started.
"Finn, was Kurt getting ready to leave when you picked me up? And do you know if he's bringing Blaine or not?"
Finn nodded. "Yeah he was. Wanted to make sure he had the right thing to wear at a lake...I told him swim trunks and a shirt would work but he seemed to shutter at the idea. Blaine is coming to get him, I'm sure they wont be gone for too much longer." Though with Kurt trying to find something to wear for a cook out by a lake, It may take him longer then usual.

"What? Sam? No. I don't know anything about where Sam is. What would make you think I know anything about where Sam is? I don't know anything about him."
Oookay. A simple no would have worked. Unless Mercedes really did know something..."I just figured you might. I know you have been better friends since our group date at Prom so I was just wondering..." Rachel wondered if there was something more to the other girl's denial about not knowing where Sam was. She would have to bring it up with Kurt later and see if he knew anything...
"Yeah he was. Wanted to make sure he had the right thing to wear at a lake...I told him swim trunks and a shirt would work but he seemed to shudder at the idea. Blaine is coming to get him, I'm sure they wont be gone for too much longer."
Rachel giggled a little at that. Yep. It definitely sounded like Kurt. He always had to have the perfect outfit. Even when he went to a sleepover, he always had the perfect pair of pjs. She was just glad Blaine appreciated fashion as well. But even if he didn't she was sure Kurt would have been more than willing to explain a few things to Blaine. "Okay, good. We can finish setting up before they get here then," she said, heading over to a few picnic tables that had a good view of the water for watching the fireworks later. She set up the lawn chair she had been carrying and set down her bag on one of the tables. It was good to claim a spot before all the other campers got to the lake and claimed them. She had almost made a 'New Directions' sign to claim their spot, but had decided against it at the last minute.
