Melody took a deep breath and grasped the strap of her guitar case gently before walking into the community center. Her audition was only scheduled in another fifteen minutes, but she decided to be there early to make a good impression. She smiled confidently and walked in, seeing that the auditions had already started...the room was pretty crowded.

Rachel Berry stood in a corner of the room. She kept singing scales, performing lip buzzes and going through other various warm ups for her voice. Rachel always liked to be prepared. The more prepared the better. Actually, she liked to even over prepare sometimes. It showed she really knew the material.
Finn had come with her to this audition. She loved that he decided to go, but it was also a little weird. She was used to going to these sorts of things either by herself or with her dads. So it was nice to have someone to actually go and audition with. She wondered if both her and Finn would make it into the talent show.
"So, are you nervous at all?" she asked Finn, looking at her sheet music once again. She was sure that she knew the song backwards and forwards, but as she said before, she liked to be prepared.

Mel looked around at the competition...then her eyes landed on her good friend, Rachel Berry. Oh look, Rachel's at an audition. Surprise surprise. She chuckled to herself and walked over.
"Never thought I'd see you here, Rachel." Mel said with a hint of sarcasm and a smile. She was glad to see her old friend again. Sure, she was a bit annoying...and on the arrogant side...and just a little too enthusiastic for her own good. But she was lovable that way.

Finn was sitting and tapping his foot nervously waiting on his turn to sing. He didn't know why he was here. He really wasn't the best singer in the club. Rachel should have really invited Kurt or Mercedes, this was totally more of there thing. But he was here so he was gonna give it his best shot. After all whats the worst that could happen? They would say no?
"So, are you nervous at all?" Rachel asked politely.
Feel like my stomach is bout to bust out of me and take the next train home but aside from that great thanks for asking. He smiled. "Not at all." Hopefully that would help her, but she had been doing this forever so he was sure she had it for sure. This was the first for him. He thought he was gonna die. He had never sung without music. Then another terrifying thought popped in his head; if he got in he would have to compete against Rachel. His heart sank.

"Not at all."
Rachel looked up from her sheet music and up (she had to look up at practically everyone, including some freakishly tall children) and smiled at Finn. She was glad he was here. He was supporting herself, but he was also bettering himself for the summer competition and Nationals next year. New Directions was going to win next year, Rachel had a good feeling about it. "That's really good. It's best not to hype yourself out. You just need to go in there and relax and sing the song like you would if you were performing in front of me when we're rehearsing or in front of glee club at school. You're a great performer Finn. You just need to gain a little confidence," she said smiling a little. There were other things Finn needed to work on as well (everyone needed to work on something unless you were like Barbra or something). For instance, Finn, really needed to work on his dancing. Rachel wasn't sure if Finn had noticed, but ever since he had broken her nose, she had made a point about staying away from him during dance rehearsals during glee.
"Never thought I'd see you here, Rachel."
Now that was just silly, of course she would be here - she thought as she turned her head towards the voice. "Melody? Hello! I didn't know you would be here," she said, with a smile on her face. The girl had been one of the few friends she had made in the drama club when she had quit the glee club to star in Cabaret way back when. That seemed so long ago. Rachel couldn't even dream about quitting the glee club now. She loved it too much. "Oh! This is my boyfriend, Finn Hudson. You've probably seen him around, he's the quarterback of the football team after all," she said, lightly touching Finn's arm. She didn't intend to brag, it just sort of came out that way. And besides, weren't girlfriends supposed to brag about their boyfriends?

"Melody? Hello! I didn't know you would be here,"
Melody grinned. "I wish I could say the same to you...but it's you, at an audition. I was kinda able to put two and two together." she commented. It might have come out sounding like a joke, but it was completely true. Clearly she knew her friend too well, and she knew that Rachel was very ambitious in just about everything she did. Hadn't she been the girl to join every school club just to appear in the yearbook photos?
"Oh! This is my boyfriend, Finn Hudson. You've probably seen him around, he's the quarterback of the football team after all,"
"Boyfriend?" Mel blinked and looked over at Finn. "That's right, I've seen you around. I go to all the football games, you guys are pretty good." I think... she said to herself. Sports definitely weren't her strong point and she had no idea how to distinguish a good team from a bad team. Based on the team's history, however...she let it slide and decided to encourage the boy. But there was something else on her mind at that moment. She turned to Rachel. "And why didn't you tell your theatre buddy you have a boyfriend?" she asked teasingly.

Finn smirked. Well at least she had faith in him. And coming from Rachel it did mean a lot. Since she is crazy talented in the arts it really meant something, it meant he really could do something with his voice. Not so much with his dancing but hey Eric Clapton didn't get up and dance when he preformed. "This is really my first time singing in front of anyone without music so it should be a little interesting." He said nervously chuckling.
"Oh! This is my boyfriend, Finn Hudson. You've probably seen him around, he's the quarterback of the football team after all,"
Finn nodded with a little wave and a smile. "Hi nice to meetcha."
"That's right, I've seen you around. I go to all the football games, you guys are pretty good."
"Oh you think so?" Finn said a little embarrassed. Not many people complemented the team figuring this was their first year of actually winning anything of any sort. "Well thanks, I wish I could say something about the theater but I really don't know a single thing."

"Well thanks, I wish I could say something about the theater but I really don't know a single thing."
Mel laughed a little at his response. "It's fine. To be honest, until high school I never had an interest in theatre, so to speak." she shrugged. "I just joined so I could sing. But it ended up being a lot of fun." she said with a smile.

"This is really my first time singing in front of anyone without music so it should be a little interesting."
Rachel smiled fondly up at Finn. He could really be cute sometimes. Well, okay, he was cute practically all of the time, but that was besides the point. "Just imagine the music in your head. It makes things easier," she said. She had been about to add that he should picture himself on a Broadway stage with a sold out audience, like what she always imagined when she sang, but that would have just made the boy even more nervous.
"I wish I could say the same to you...but it's you, at an audition. I was kinda able to put two and two together."
She laughed a little at that. It was true. She was pretty sure she hadn't missed an audition ever since was about five years old. Rachel was a pro when it came to auditioning.
"That's right, I've seen you around. I go to all the football games, you guys are pretty good."
"Oh you think so? Well thanks, I wish I could say something about the theater but I really don't know a single thing."
Rachel sighed a little. She knew Finn didn't really like to brag. But, as his girlfriend, she could brag for him. "Of course you're 'pretty good' Finn. You guys did win the state championship game after all," she said, dusting off some lint she saw on his sleeve. That had been the game when the glee club girls had played briefly because the football team had quit because they wouldn't do the half time show. The football team eventually decided to perform the halftime show and continued wearing their zombie costumes for the second half of the game. They actually won the game because of their 'scare tactics.' It was theatricality at its finest.
"And why didn't you tell your theatre buddy you have a boyfriend?"
Why didn't she tell her about Finn? To be honest, she was surprised Melody wanted to know about who she was dating. Rachel had never really had that many friends, but being in glee changed that. She had been on and off with Finn for a while now. She hah even liked him way back when she had auditioned for Cabaret and had befriended Melody. And plus, the school wasn't that big. Couple drama and rumors kind of spread through the school like wildfire. She was surprised the girl hadn't heard anything especially with Finn being so popular and all. "I must have been distracted I guess. I've been really busy with Glee Club. We placed 12th at Nationals this year!" she said, grinning from ear to ear. It was a big accomplishment for a little glee club from Lima, Ohio. Next year though, they were totally going to win the whole thing. She had a good feeling about it.

"I must have been distracted I guess. I've been really busy with Glee Club. We placed 12th at Nationals this year!"
"Yeah, I heard about that. That's totally awesome!" Mel said with a grin. McKinley High had never really achieved much and she knew it. Well, unless you counted the Cheerios, but Mel really couldn't care less for them. They had always been the ones to pick on and bully her for reasons unknown. But hey, she couldn't care less what those disgusting plastics thought of her.
She listened for names and kept looking down at her watch. Five minutes until she was supposed to go on. She took another deep breath and pulled out her guitar, making sure it was properly tuned. As the fiddled with the guitar she asked Rachel, "So when's your audition?"

"Just imagine the music in your head. It makes things easier,"
Finn nodded nervously. Yeah totally that will help. But with his nerves as they are he would hear the music in his head but forget the words. It was just a talent show he really needed to calm down about this whole thing. He would do fine. The only really problem would be trying to compete against Rachel. He had to try his best though other wise that wouldn't be fair to Rachel, Melody, or himself. "Yeah thanks." He said nodding his head. "Are you ready?"
"Of course you're 'pretty good' Finn. You guys did win the state championship game after all,"
"Yeah thanks to you." He said leaning Rachel in kissing her head.
"It's fine. To be honest, until high school I never had an interest in theatre, so to speak. I just joined so I could sing. But it ended up being a lot of fun."
Finn laughed. "You know its almost the same with me and the Glee club."

"Yeah thanks. Are you ready?"
Rachel smiled up at him and straightened her sheet music once again. "Oh yes. My auditioning experience is extensive. I've been going to auditions since I was five," she said, not exaggerating in the slightest. She had full confidence in her singing ability. She had binders full of sheet music that she had made to better decide on what sheet music to sing at auditions.
"Yeah thanks to you."
Rachel blushed and grinned as Finn kissed her head. He could really be too cute sometimes. "Of course we were going to help. But we only helped you guys out so you could play the game. We girls just kind of lied there so we wouldn't get hurt," well all except Lauren and Tina. They actually wanted to try to play the game.
"Yeah, I heard about that. That's totally awesome!"
"Thanks! I'm pretty excited. Our club's come so far from when we were just starting out. And I just know next year we're going to do even better!" Rachel smiled. She had a great feeling about their chances. New Directions was just getting better and better.
"So when's your audition?"
Rachel looked up at the clock, "In ten minutes. So you're playing guitar? What song are you singing?" she asked, wanting to know more about her competition.

"In ten minutes. So you're playing guitar? What song are you singing?"
"Hallelujah...I've never heard a version with guitar in the background alone, so I hope the judges like it." she answered and smiled. Her guitar had come out of its case almost perfectly tuned...which was good, since she had spent a good long time tuning it before she left. She looked up at Rachel. She knew this girl would put up a good fight. "And what are you singing?"

"Hallelujah...I've never heard a version with guitar in the background alone, so I hope the judges like it. And what are you singing?"
Rachel nodded at Melody. She had heard the song before. It was not something she would have picked for an audition, but the girl hadn't asked for Rachel's excellent audition advice.
"I'm singing "Gimme Gimme" from the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. It's a great song for my vocal range and I'm sure that it will be a great crowd pleaser. It's one of the many selections I have prepared for auditions like these," she said confidently, as she fixed her hair. Rachel loved to be prepared. You never knew when you would have to perform a number on the fly. At Sectionals last year, Rachel had to sing "Don't Rain on My Parade" at the last minute because their set list had been leaked to the other glee clubs. It was easy for Rachel. It was one of her favorite songs from one of her favorite musicals. You couldn't go wrong with a Barbra song.

"Oh, I see." Mel said, thinking, There she goes again. That girl is such a show-off sometimes. Although, Melody couldn't really blame Rachel for being a bit braggy. The girl had talent, after all, and whoever said confidence was a bad thing? But maybe Rachel took things a little too far with her flaunting.
Melody then heard her name being called and blinked. "Oh...I guess I'm going up early." she muttered, picking up her guitar and taking another deep breath. She smiled and looked at Rachel and Finn. "Well, wish me luck!"
