Personality:
Rachel is the star of the Glee club. She is very driven to get what she wants and doesn't like being told no and that she can't do something. She can be very demanding and is very self involved. Rachel knows that she is talented and is not afraid of letting the whole world know it. She can be very manipulative when it comes to getting what she wants, but her intentions are usually in the right place. Rachel is also very self conscious about her appearance. She often compares herself to girls like Quinn or Santana, who in her opinion are a lot prettier than she is. She likes to make friends, but that is usually a hard thing for her to do because most people don't want to put up with her personality.
History:
Rachel was born on December 18, 1994 to Hiram and Leroy Berry. As an interracial same sex couple, they screened potential surrogates based on beauty and IQ and mixed their sperm together using a turkey baster. To this day, they don't know which dad is her biological father. Rachel was raised Jewish but is very open to other beliefs. Her dads spoiled her in the arts and she won her first dance competition at 3 months old and her first singing competition at 8 months old. Ever since then, she has taken dance, piano and singing lessons to strengthen her skills so that she may once achieve her dream of being in the spotlight of a Broadway stage. In her freshman year of high school, she was apart of many different clubs in order to get practice for paparazzi taking pictures of her in the future.
In her sophomore year, Rachel joined the Glee club, New Directions and quickly became the star of the club. She quickly developed a major crush on Finn Hudson but he was with Quinn Fabray, the captain of the Cheerios. Rachel at one point left the Glee club when she felt that she wasn't being appreciated. She joined the school musical to be the star of Cabaret. Finn eventually convinced her to go back. Noah Puckerman and Rachel dated for a while as Puck thought that two Jews should hook up. This relationship quickly ended but they remained friends. Rachel and Kurt have always had a bit of a rivalry. Kurt even tried to sabotage Rachel as she was trying to win Finn's affections because he also had feelings for the quarterback. The plans fell through and they both realized that he was with Quinn and they couldn't change that.
Rachel was voted co-captain of New Directions alongside Finn. She landed the Glee club jobs singing in a mattress commercial before the Sectionals competition. Rachel also may have hinted to Finn that the father of Quinn's baby was Puck and not himself, breaking the two up. Their set list was leaked to their competition and the Glee club had to throw together new songs right before their performance. Rachel sang Don't Rain on My Parade, a song she had been working on since she was four, and the Glee club won their first Sectionals competition. Rachel sort of thought that her and Finn would get together after that, but Finn didn't think the same and broke it off with her. It was then that Rachel met Jesse St. James, lead soloist of Vocal Adrenaline, the Glee club from Carmel High School. The two Divas hit it off right away, and shortly after getting together Finn tried to win Rachel back. Jesse transferred to McKinley and joined Glee. They grew to be pretty serious, but when Jesse wanted to go all the way and have sex with her, Rachel couldn't go through with it. She discovered that Jesse originally transferred so that Shelby Corcoran, the director of Vocal Adrenaline, could have some sort of contact with Rachel who was her biological daughter that she gave away so many years ago. Jesse ended up transferring back to Carmel and is peer pressured to crack an egg on Rachel's egg, sending her and the glee club into a funk. Finn and Rachel end up officially getting together right before the Regionals competition. They end up losing and the club almost gets canceled, but they end up getting another year to sing.
Junior year comes around and Rachel and Finn have been dating the whole summer. The glee club starts to try to recruit new members, including one Sunshine Corazon. Rachel is intimidated by Sunshine's talent, and ends up sending her to a crack house. Even though she did it out of love and worry that herself and the other members of the club wouldn't get as many solos, the rest of the club didn't see it that way. Sunshine ends up being swept up by Vocal Adrenaline. When Sam joins the glee club, Rachel and Finn hatch a plan to get Sam and Quinn to win the duets competition so that Sam will want to stick around in the club. The two decide to throw the competition. Kurt begins to get progressively more bullied and Rachel gets the glee guys to confront Dave Karofsky about it. Kurt ends up leaving the club and transferring to Dalton Academy. Rachel helps Kurt find a song for him to audition with for the Warblers, the glee club at Dalton and they form a friendship, Rachel telling him that he was her 'only real competition.'
Santana lets spill out that Finn lied to her about them sleeping together last year. She then refuses to sing a solo in sectionals. She makes out with Puck to try to make Finn jealous because she was mad at him for lying and they break up. Rachel still loves Finn and tries repeatedly to get back together with him. She decides to go solo for a while without a guy, even though she still has feelings for Finn. She throws a party at her house where just about everyone gets drunk. She kisses Blaine Anderson, a gay friend of Kurt's from Dalton, and even convinces herself that she might have feelings for him as he also questions his sexuality. He realizes he's gay and she knows that she still loves Finn. Quinn tells Rachel to give up on Finn, but Rachel refuses and writes an original song called Get it Right that she performs at Regionals. The glee club wins the competition and she gets voted as MVP by her fellow members. Rachel considers getting a nose job after her nose gets injured, and Kurt and the glee club stage a 'Barbaravention' after Kurt's return to McKinley to get Rachel to not change her appearance. Mercedes doesn't have a date for Prom, and Rachel devises a plan and they both ask Sam to go and they go as friends. Jesse returns to Lima and apologizes to Rachel. He goes to Prom with Rachel, Sam and Mercedes. Jesse gets hired as a show choir consultant and Rachel sings My Man as her audition, confessing she still has feelings for Finn, but has been trying to accept that Finn is with Quinn. Jesse kisses her and while she doesn't kiss back, she doesn't turn away either. The club is now headed to Nationals in New York City.

New York had been amazing. More than amazing. It had been like a dream. But that wasn't right, because if it was, New Directions would have won Nationals and had taken home that first place trophy.
Maybe the trip had been more like an awakening. An affirmation that it was that that city where she truly belonged. A city that understood her and held all of her dreams in the palm of its hand. It was something Lima, Ohio had never and would never be able to accomplish. New York made her feel more alive. Made her feel like anything was possible as long as she had that city as her backdrop.
During that trip she had flown on a plane for the first time in her life, seen landmarks like Times Square and Central Park, been on a romantic date where she had eaten at Sardi's and met Patti Lupone. She had also eaten breakfast at Tiffany's with one of her best friends and then sang on stage at the Gershwin Theater. The only way the trip could have gone any better would be if they had won the competition or even made it in the top ten.
But most importantly, the fact was that Rachel Berry would be in in New York permanently one day and would have her name up in lights.
As Rachel stepped onto the stage of the April Rhodes Civic Pavilion, something she'd done countless of times, she couldn't help but compare it to the stage that she had sang on in New York. This stage looked so small now. She stood in silence for a few moments before closing her eyes and creating her own orchestra in her mind. She lost herself in the moment as she began to sing one of her favorite songs from her favorite movie.
Rachel smiled to herself as she sang her song. Sometimes she just had the urge to sing something for herself. Not for a diva-off or a competition or an audition, but just for herself. And plus, she had always felt she had a huge personal connection to the character Fanny Brice. And not just because Barbara portrayed her in the movie. Now would she put this piece of music to the back of her mind to remember for later in case she needed to pull a song out for an audition or something? Yes, but that wasn't the point at the moment. Rachel moved slowly towards downstage as she finished the song.
