Brittany didn't pay much attention as everyone explained their summer plans. She was going to go to the beach with Santana. That was all that mattered. She would be wearing her favorite bikini. Santana told her that it was summer vacation. And summer meant warm weather, which meant, bikinis. At least that was all true if Santana was to be trusted. And now, Santana was the person she trusted most of all.
It was then that Mr. Schue walked in. What was it Coach Sylvester said? That Mr. Schue's head looked like a Brillo pad? Well, Brittany didn't know what a Brillo pad was, but Mr. Schue's hair was...different. It was so very curly. She wondered if she patted it, if it would bounce.
Wait, what did Mr. Schue just say? She completely missed it. Oh well, now Rachel Berry was standing in front of the room talking about some competition. She talked on and on and on. She never shut up. Brittany ended up tuning her out. She was probably just talking about Sectionals coming up. Wait...was that soon? What did they just do in New York? Nationals. Right. She had written that brilliant song "My Cup." For some reason the club didn't want to perform the song she and Artie worked so hard on.
Then what competition was next? Wait, Santana told her it was summer vacation and they were going to the beach. So, what was Rachel going on about? It just didn't make sense. Brittany looked at Santana for help, then over at Mr. Schue. One of them could surely explain what was going on.
The glance at Mr. Schue was all it took. A brief moment of silence followed Rachel's last statement. Brittany was the one to speak up first. She just had to know if Mr. Schue's hair bounced. It looked so bouncy.
"Mr. Schue, can I touch your hair?

"Camping? That sounds like fun. Doesn't really seem like your style though Kurt."
Kurt chuckled and gave Rachel one of his flippant hand gestures. "My style or not, it appears I'm going." She was right, even though she was joking. Camping wasn't Kurt's style. But his dad had said they all needed some father son time, and Finn had wanted to go camping. So camping they went.
"But I have something to tell you guys that is just going to make your summer be the best summer of all time!"
Uh-oh...Rachel had that face again. He had seen that face many, many times. She was excited about something. Something that would undoubtedly make them all miserable for the whole summer. He liked Rachel. He really did. But this was the first time he had ever had a boyfriend, and he had been planning on using his summer to hang out with Blaine when he wasn't performing at his theme park gig.
Thank god Mr. Schue walked in when he did. Maybe he wouldn't let Rachel speak. Of course this was too good to be true. Mr. Schue might as well have asked Rachel to explain everything that was on her mind. Rachel opened her mouth and Kurt forgot how much that girl could say.
"Now I know we're all a little distressed that we didn't win Nationals like we should have and I know that we will be winning the competition next year, but what if we could get a leg up on the competition? I was in a record shop the other day in Westerville when I ran into two of the Warblers. They are apparently getting ready for a competition in California! So, I looked it up and sure enough, the Summer Spectacular Show Choir Competition is indeed happening this summer! Personally, I think it would be the best idea to submit ourselves into the competition ourselves. It will be a great way to get ready for Nationals. We can't let an opportunity like this go to waste!"
Whoa, hold up! The Warblers were going to a competition in California?! Kurt stood a little straighter. Well, if the Warblers were going, there was no question about it. Kurt would go. Any excuse to be close to Blaine was okay by him. Plus this competition meant that Blaine would be practicing a lot. And if Blaine was practicing, then what would Kurt be doing? He might as well be practicing for the same competition.
"Mr. Schue, can I touch your hair?"
Kurt slowly turned his head and stared at Brittany. What in the world went on in this girl's head? Rachel just mentioned California (and the Warblers) and she was thinking about Mr. Schuester's hair! He sighed slightly and turned his attention back to Rachel. "Well, I for one think it's a great idea. A summer competition to prepare us for the regular season sounds great. Get a jump start, so to speak." That and he'd be in California with Blaine.

After one miss Rachel Berry stood up to talk Santana honestly quit listening. I mean Every time the girl opened her mouth Santana had the sudden urge to upchuck. I mean to ramble on about absolutely anything that popped into your head was ridiculous. And then there was one word that seemed important. California. Could it be possible that Rachel was talking about a good idea. I mean in Cali Britt and Santana could still get their swim on and they would be able to show their hotness to the other side of the country. Santana knew she had star potential. If she could just get a shot in LA then she would be able to ditch the beard and be wit Brittany. I mean when your famous it doesn't matter if your a lesbian. People worship the ground you walk on no matter what you do.
Then she heard Kurt speek.
A summer competition to prepare us for the regular season sounds great. Get a jump start so to speak.
So there would be fun in California and she would be on stage showing how great she truly was. All she had to do was get the solo from Berry and it was a perfect summer. Mr. Schue, I actually agree with Rachel for once. This sounds like a great chance for a head start. And because I was planning on going to the beach this summer I can see about convincing my dad to make a large donation to the trip. See she knew she could be a nice person. I mean yeah she was getting something out of it but that didn't mean she had to help pay the way for the others as well. Santana felt proud of herself. Good deed for the day done.

Wow she had certainly been busy. She was just out and about and happened to hear about a competition over the summer. From the Warblers too. Its a wonder why Blaine didn't mention this to Kurt or Finn at all. Looks like Rachel already took it as a necessity to go to this competition. It sounded exciting enough, plus it was in California! Finn always wanted to go to the land of the movie stars. He was all for it.
"Well I'm in! Sounds like a great way to get ready for the year, plus it sounds like an awesome trip!"

"My style or not, it appears I'm going."
"You never know, it could be a lot of fun. I've never been camping before, unless you count setting up a tent in the backyard and attempting to roast marshmallows on a hot plate as camping," she said, smiling a little at the fond memory of camping in the backyard with her dads. They had even sang songs like they were really sitting around a campfire.
"Mr. Schue, can I touch your hair?"
"Well, I for one think it's a great idea. A summer competition to prepare us for the regular season sounds great. Get a jump start, so to speak."

Will blinked at Brittany's random question. "Not now Brittany. Maybe later." Well. He hadn't been expecting that news. A competition in California? It sounded like a great idea. That's if the kids were all for it. Will wouldn't want to take away from their summer by making them compete at a competition, but if they really wanted to compete, he wasn't going to stop them. "Well, if everyone wants to compete, I don't see why we shouldn't go! And that would be great Santana. But we will probably still need to raise a little more money. How does another taffy sale sound? Or a bake sale?" he asked, pretty proud of his fundraiser suggestions. They had worked so well for his glee club when he was in high school.
Rachel grinned when Mr. Schuester said they could compete. But she almost groaned out loud at the idea of doing another bake sale or taffy sale. "I actually have an idea for that as well. When I was talking to the two Warbler council members, I mentioned our benefit concert. They do similar concerts, but they have a huge fan base and always have a full house. So, I asked if maybe they would like to get more rehearsal time in by doing a joint concert with us. They agreed to help us if that's what we decide we want to do," she smiled a little bit, proud of herself for taking so much initiative to help out the club. They were sure to win Nationals next year, no question about it.

Wow. Mercedes was surprised at how everyone agreed so quickly. Well, Brittany didn't agree really. She was clueless as usually and said some crazy off the wall thing. But everyone else, including Santana was for it. Mercedes thought and then smiled. It sounded like a good idea to her.
And then Rachel mentioned the benefit concert. Oh no. At the last benefit concert, Tina was booed off the stage, and couldn't stop crying. No one clapped or cheered when Mike danced, which was just weird. Those hecklers were really bad. Finally it was just Kurt, Blaine, the rest of New Directions, and Mr. Ryerson in the audience to watch her sing. Rachel was backstage waiting for her turn to sing. But after Mercedes sang, Rachel said she couldn't go on, because Mercedes was the closing act, and she brought the house down. She supposed it wasn't a bad idea after all, if they could get an audience.
"Well, I'm definitely on board for the competition. And, if the Warblers can promise an audience, I'm down for the concert too." Mercedes would rather have a concert, anyway, rather than try and have another taffy or bake sale. Those ideas were all kinds of bad news. Besides it was summer and there was no way she was going door to door like a little girl scout. That was more Rachel than Mercedes.

"Well, if everyone wants to compete, I don't see why we shouldn't go! And that would be great Santana. But we will probably still need to raise a little more money. How does another taffy sale sound? Or a bake sale?"
Kurt inwardly groaned. Glee couldn't do another bake sale or taffy sale. What was Mr. Schue thinking? Did he seriously not remember what happened last time they tried that? Plus school was over. There was no way that Kurt was going door to door selling baked goods or taffy.
"I actually have an idea for that as well. When I was talking to the two Warbler council members, I mentioned our benefit concert. They do similar concerts, but they have a huge fan base and always have a full house. So, I asked if maybe they would like to get more rehearsal time in by doing a joint concert with us. "Well, I'm definitely on board for the competition. And, if the Warblers can promise an audience, I'm down for the concert too."
Now that was more like it. Leave it to Rachel to find a way for them to raise money while performing. Normally wouldn't have wanted a performance. The only people that had come to New Directions last benefit concert was himself, Blaine, and a handful of hecklers. But they would be sold out of the Warblers performed with them. Maybe he could even convince the groups that he and Blaine should sing a duet! Kurt cleared his throat and raised his hand. "Mr. Schue? If I may?"
Kurt stood up and addressed his fellow glee club members. "I know your last attempt at a benefit concert was disastrous. I know because as you may all remember, I was in the audience. But this time it's different. The Warblers are like rock stars! If we perform with them, all of Dalton Academy is sure to show up."

Oh wow working on a benefit concert. It could be fun, though Kurt was right the last time they had a benefit concert it ended in disaster. But Kurt and Blaine did say the Warblers were the stars of the school. It would be like if people were gonna show up for the McKinley Cheerio's, a full crowd! This could be really fun. "That awesome! Should Rachel and I go meet with the Dalton captains to plan a set list?"

"Not now Brittany. Maybe later."
And now Brittany was slightly sad. She only wanted to see if it bounced. But he did say later. So, maybe she really could later. She brightened up considerably at this prospect. Brittany's emotions often did this. They lasted a second and then a new one was in place. But that was only when little things were involved. For instance she got really sad when Kurt's dad had that heart attack. But she was able to channel that sadness to make Kurt feel better. She even gave him the book report that she worked so hard on. Even if the teacher didn't appreciate it, she was sure that it helped Kurt in his time of need.
Wait, what was Rachel talking about? A concert? No, they didn't have a concert coming up. Brittany crossed her legs and looked at her nails. She would perform in a concert if it meant that she was able to dance. She loved dancing. She liked singing too. But the Glee Club didn't give her enough solos. She was obviously one of the most talented people here. Okay, that Rachel Berry girl was pretty talented too. But she didn't share the spotlight. Brittany wanted to sing more Britney, or more Ke$ha.
"I know your last attempt at a benefit concert was disastrous. I know because as you may all remember, I was in the audience. But this time it's different. The Warblers are like rock stars! If we perform with them, all of Dalton Academy is sure to show up."
Rock stars? The Warblers were rock starts? Well, that was cool. Brittany really wanted to meet them now. She sat up a little straighter and smiled. This was perfect. It was exactly what she had been waiting for. If what Kurt said was true, then she couldn't go wrong. "The Warblers are rock stars? They should meet my pet rock! I'm sure they'll be best friends in no time."
