Melody sat alone at the back table of the Lima Bean, latte macchiato in hand, as she looked through an old photo album. Her parents' anniversary was coming up...by parents, she meant her mother and stepfather. Their seventh wedding anniversary was just around the corner and she was looking in the photo album for inspiration. She needed a gift. Of course she would sing a song for them, but Melody felt like that wasn't enough. She wanted to give them a materiel gift as well.
Melody found a picture that...interested her, so to speak. It was a very old photo from about ten years ago. A six-year old Melody looked up at the camera, a big smile on her face, holding her brand-new karaoke machine. She smiled at the memory. Her first karaoke machine...that was the thing that started her music career, after all. Behind the little girl in the picture, she saw a familiar man...her biological father.
Melody turned the page quickly. There he was again. And again. She flipped through several pages until his face didn't appear anymore. The last thing she wanted to see was that awful man's face. Why hadn't her mom ripped out all these photos? She had done everything else to eliminate evidence of a previous marriage, even going so far as to change her daughter's last name! So why? Why was that idiot still in the album that meant so much to her family?
She slammed the book shut angrily, shoved it aside and took a long sip of her macchiato, taking a few minutes to calm down.

Rylee stood in line at the Lima Bean, her laptop case over her shoulder. She planned to spend the day out and about simply because she had to get out of the house. She figured the Lima Bean was as good a place as any. At least she could be somewhat productive in her own way while she was out.
She had just picked up her vanilla bean frappuccino and was looking to fid a table when she heard a rather violent slam of a book near her. Her head snapped over to a girl who had pushed what looked like some sort of album off to the side. She watched ass it teetered on the edge and fell, nearly diving forward to caych it just before it hit the ground. She strightened, smiling at the girl as she placed the album back on the table.
"That was a close one." she said with a slight laugh.

"That was a close one."
Melody blinked and looked down at the girl who had caught her book. "Uh, thanks...but you didn't have to do all that." she said, referring to the girl's rather dramatic attempt at catching the book.

"Uh, thanks..But you didn't have to do all that."
Rylee shrugged "It was no problem. Besides, a photo album holds a lot of memories. Memories don't belong on the floor." she took a sip of her frappuccino, immediately refreshed. "Though you slammed it closed harshly. I don't mean to pry but...is everything okay?" Rylee was never one to turn away a troubled face, even that of a stranger.

"Though you slammed it closed harshly. I don't mean to pry but...is everything okay?"
Melody looked away, sipping the macchiato before answering. Maybe getting a frappuccino like this girl would have have been a good idea; the espresso in Melody's drink was making her frisky, which was bad when she was angry. "Let's just say some memories do belong on a filthy floor."

"Let's just say some memories do belong on a filthy floor."
Rylee's eyebrows raised "Ah. I see." she said, sitting down as she sipped at her frappuccino again "We all have those memories." she said "But I suppose even sometimes those are too precious to let go..." her voice trailed off for a moment before she snapped herself out of her daze. "I'm Rylee by the way. Rylee McKade."

"I'm Rylee by the way. Rylee McKade."
Melody allowed herself to smile a little. "Melody Niwa." she introduced herself. "You don't look familiar...are you from around here?"

"You don't look familiar...are you from around here?"
Rylee nodded. "Yes. I live here in Lima." she explained, "But I go to Crawford. I'm part of their glee club, the Larks."

"Oh." she nodded. "I go to McKinley and wanna be in New Directions...I'll be sure to audition this year." she said with a smile.

Rylee nodded as she finished off her frappuccino and set the empty cup to the side. "I've heard good things about New Directions. I've never seen them perform though." she said with a smile. "Didn't they make it to regionals last year?"

"Didn't they make it to regionals last year?"
"Regionals, then nationals." she replied. "And they really are great...they don't deserve the crap they get at school." Melody said with a sigh.

"And they really are great...they don't deserve the crap they get at school."
Rylee shrugged "Yeah well. Not every school can be as accepting of the Glee club as Crawford and our brother school Dalton." she said. "But making it to Nationals is quite impressive."
She looked out the window. The morning weather was nice and sunny. It was promising to be a good day. She looked to Melody "So what brings you out today?" she asked, changing the subject.

"So what brings you out today?"
Melody looked over at the photo album that lay in front of her. "My parents' wedding anniversary is soon and I was looking in the album for inspiration. And I always have the most inspiration when I have caffeine in my system!" she said with a laugh, then looked to the girl. "And you?"

"And you?"
Rylee sat her laptop case on the table. "I was planning to kill a good few hours here on homework and writing. Then maybe do some shopping. Just needed to get out of the house ya know?" she said with a smile "Sounds like your day would be much more productive though."

"Sounds like your day would be much more productive though."
"It should be, but the photos in here aren't helping much. Maybe I should just write a song after all..."
