This would happen time to time. This burning feeling in his chest. This total and absolute void that at times nothing could fill. He really didn't understand it, his dad had died so long ago he didn't even know him. How in the world could he desperately miss someone he didn't even know. Rachel and Kurt would always sing how they felt to make themselves feel better or to let there emotions out. He took a deep breath letting the band that was kind enough to practice with him. The genital guitar at softly play. He began to hum to himself as the bass and the drums eased there way into the song. He then sang. I see the world Feel the chill Which way to go Windowsill I see the words On a rocking horse of time I see the birds in the rain
Oh dear dad Can you see me now I am myself Like you somehow I'll ride the wave Where it takes me I'll hold the pain Release me
Oh dear dad Can you see me now I am myself Like you somehow I'll wait up in the dark For you to speak to me I'll open up Release me Release me Release me Release me

Kurt was walking backstage at the April Rhodes Civic Pavilion when he heard it. The music. He had been planning to practice one of his big broadway smash numbers, but the voice made him stop. It was Finn's. Well, that was funny. Usually it was Rachel he had to deal with when he wanted to practice in here. He was about to walk right onto the stage and ask Finn what he was practicing, but something made him stop.
Kurt stood in the wings of the stage and watched Finn as he sang. Finn looked...sad. What was wrong with him? Again Kurt was about to march out onto the stage and ask, when he really started listening to the words of the song. So that was it. Finn was missing his dad. Kurt completely understood him in this moment. He often missed his mother and would sing about it. He closed his eyes and listened to the song as a tear escaped his eye and slid down his cheek.
When the song ended, Kurt opened his eyes again and looked at Finn. People dealt with their feelings of pain and loss differently. But Kurt decided to offer him some help anyway, in case he wanted it. After all they both knew what it was like to lose a parent. He walked out onto the stage and nodded slightly at the band. He reached Finn and was finally able to see his facial expression. It was as Kurt guessed. Pained. He was going through a rough time. He had never known Finn to sing about his feelings, but he supposed having himself as a step-brother and Rachel as a girlfriend was starting to rub off on him. He hesitated before he said something. He supposed he could get Rachel. She was his girlfriend after all. But what made him stop was the fact that Kurt and Finn understood each other in this particular pain. Kurt decided not to get Rachel. She probably wouldn't help at all, anyway. Kurt watched Finn's face carefully. "So...did that help?"
