Mercedes stood in the waiting area of Breadstix and checked herself in the mirror one last time. Of course, her make-up was perfect and it didn't even look like she had her weave in. It all looked completely natural. She snapped the mirror closed and looked around. Good. None of her friends here here. She and Sam could have their date and not worry about others. That's why they chose a week day. It was less crowded and they didn't have to worry about being seen or overheard.
She supposed she had liked Sam for a while, but hadn't realized it. When Rachel brought Jesse St. James to Prom, Mercedes just naturally gravitated towards Sam. It was no secret that she didn't like Jesse, especially after the "show choir consultant" fiasco. She never realized how funny Sam was. And how cute. When Sam went up to her and told her she was beautiful, she could have sworn the world stopped and everyone at Prom disappeared. It was just her and Sam. They danced together the rest of the night.
As she replayed Prom in her head she was humming along with the music coming from the speakers. She smiled as she thought about it. They were finally going on another date. Of course when she arrived (unannounced) she wouldn't be able to talk about it. But that was just fine with her. She was perfectly happy with not being able to talk about it, as long as she was able to date Sam Evans.

Of course going out on a "secret date" was pretty risky, it was definitely worth it to Sam to be going out with the girl he was. He hadn't had too much experience with girls, and the experience he had had turned out to just be jokes. He was done messing around, and with Mercedes he felt happy. He knew she was a great girl, and wouldn't just go messing around with someone's heart. He felt like he knew that she wanted exactly what he wanted. Someone to call his own.
Tonight's second "secret date" was at Breadstix. A week day, so their chances of running into someone of whom they were close with were slim to none. As he pulled up in the car he borrowed from his dad for the night, he felt excitement just rushing through his body. He really liked Mercedes. He wasn't sure exactly how it was so sudden. When he asked her to dance at prom, he meant it when he said she looked beautiful and when they danced he just felt incredible with her. Like it wasn't fake or forced chemistry. This was real.
The "keeping it a secret" thing was quite the annoyance, though. They couldn't display their affection in front of their friends, they couldn't go out on public dates, and the fact that their whole relationship was just a big secret kinda bummed him out but at the same time it excited him. The rush from it being some huge secret was exhilarating. Sam's energy when around Mercedes just always increased. He never really got like this for any other girl.
He parked the car, locked it as he got out and stuffed the keys in his pants pocket and nearly pranced inside. He immediately set eyes on Mercedes. He walked straight up to her, hoping to catch her off guard. "Hey there," he said quietly behind her with a big smile on his face. Once again, she looked extravagant and he couldn't find the words right away to tell her so. "You look," the smile didn't leave his face, "amazing."

"Hey there" said a quiet voice behind her. She smiled and turned around, looking right into the smiling face of Sam Evans. "You look amazing." Mercedes practically blushed at this.
"Not so bad yourself, Sam." she replied. She reached up to hug him. Her mind traveled back in time to their performance at Nationals. They did original songs again, just like at Regionals. And they killed it! Rachel and Finn sang an awesome duet. Then their group number "Light up the World" had the crowd on their feet. It was such an amazing feeling to perform in New York City. At the very end of the performance, she and Sam turned towards each other, and hugged. It was one of the best hugs she had ever received. And she looked forward to more in the future.
As she hugged him, she heard the Justin Beiber song "Baby" come on the restaurant's radio, and couldn't help but laugh. She remembered when Sam sang that song for Quinn. As much as she didn't like him singing to another girl, they weren't together at the time, and it was pretty funny (and hot). She had no idea how he managed to make Beiber cool. Thinking about it now, maybe he didn't make Beiber cool. Sam, himself was just that cool. She laughed inwardly. Well, that wasn't true either. But Sam was just so adorable and he had an amazing voice.
