Although the Douglas family had been in Lima for about two and half weeks, they were still unpacking boxes. Why did it seem like there wasn't as much when packing everything up?
Sure there was getting registered for school, then Mom and Dad meeting their new boss so time hadn't been to much on their side.
Zane was on the last couple of boxes of mementos from his school in New York. He looked at a picture he had of himself in his old school's glee choir. They had great times together, with field trips, singing at Yankee Stadium, the height of it all was singing at Disney World over Christmas. Now he was going to a school where the glee choir was like 15 people at best, not the usual 40 plus he had been accustom to. He sighed and set the pic aside as he heard his stomach start to rumble.
Grabbing his wallet, he headed downstairs where his folks were talking.
"I don't want to complain but when's dinner? I think my stomach clock went off." He inquired.
"Zane, we need to go talk to Mr. Preston of the opera company, some last minute thing," his mother grimaces as she spoke. "You mind getting your own dinner? I'll even treat."
Zane almost froze. "Me? Out there? In the town? Its...its so big!" Course when you're five foot two, everything is big.
"Well, there is a place called Breadstix, close by. You could go there. Oh and see they even sent a welcome coupon, 10% off your meal."
Zane bit his lip. "I suppose that would be fine." Granted he did miss sitting as a family for a meal but sometimes sacrifices had to be made.
His mother handed him $30 from her wallet. "That should cover it." She mussed his hair before heading out.
His father handed an extra $10 over. "Just in case, or if you stop for dessert."
Zane watched his folks head out. For the first time in a new city, he was going to venture out. How would Piglet handle this? Maybe some sort of easy disguise. He put on a Reds baseball hat, sunglasses and one last thing, he ran up to his room for his IPOD. Hopefully no one would try to talking to him until he was ready.
The walk to Breadstix was uneventful, thankfully. There was a small wait before getting a table. He sat on a bench inside waiting for his name to be called when he over heard the muzak playing. It sounded familiar. The more he listened the more he got it. Soon was singing softly to it.
"Love, love will keep us together,
think of me babe whenever."
He didn't know someone was listening to him give a karaoke rendition of a song.
